Merger

Four affiliates merge to further the mission — March 1, 1987

Planned Parenthood of North East Pennsylvania (PPNEP) was created March 1, 1987, through the merger of four existing Planned Parenthood affiliates:

  • Planned Parenthood of Berks County
  • Planned Parenthood of the Lehigh Valley (the product of a merger of affiliates in Northampton and Lehigh Counties in 1983)
  • Monroe County Planned Parenthood Association, and
  • Planned Parenthood of Northeastern Pennsylvania (the product of a merger of affiliates serving Lackawanna, Wyoming and Luzerne Counties in 1985)

We benefit the community:

  • Providing medical services to over 20,000 patients annually at our eight health centers
  • Providing education programs throughout the affiliate
  • Providing public advocacy throughout the affiliate

We cover a lot of ground:

  • Nine counties, spanning more than 5,000 square miles
  • Four congressional districts
  • 31 state representative districts
  • Nine state senate districts
  • Nine county governments
  • Hundreds of city, township and borough governments
  • Over 70 public school districts

Our hard work pays off:

PPNEP received outstanding, 100% ratings during each of its reaccredidation reviews by Planned Parenthood Federation of America (conducted once every four years).
